Lloret is promoting Nordic walking through the Lloret Nordic Walking Centre.
This project, which forms part of the Lloret Natura programme and the municipal sports service, has the following goals:  
  • To raise awareness of Nordic walking among the population, emphasising its health benefits and how it enables walkers to discover the wonderful natural setting.
  • To add a new outdoor activity to the active tourism and nature tourism offer, enabling users to discover the trails and coastal paths of the Costa Brava.
  • To make Lloret a leading Nordic walking destination for enthusiasts from all over Europe.
What is Nordic Walking?
Nordic walking is a very popular activity in Europe that combines nature, sport and health. It consists of walking using specially designed poles that facilitate muscle work, the cardiovascular system, coordination and mobility. Moreover, it can be combined with a series of exercises for working on power or muscle elasticity, depending on the walker’s physical level.  

In recent years, Nordic walking has become established in Spain with a growing number of enthusiasts. Indeed, more and more clubs and associations have been spreading the word about the sport in order to attract new walkers. That is why Lloret de Mar wishes to gain a foothold in this interesting market segment, widening its current active tourism offer. Nordic walking is just like your daily stroll but using special poles. It is easy to learn and apart from being healthy the level of tiredness during the activity and at the end is relatively low.
Goals
Lloret is promoting Nordic walking through the Lloret Nordic Walking Centre.

Routes
Lloret has 6 hiking trails that are ideal for Nordic Walking. New trails are currently being designed for Nordic walking enthusiasts.
It is also possible to go on free organised Nordic walking trips that are organised every Saturday by Nordic walking instructors.

Nordic Walking Trips
Since the summer of 2009 Lloret has employed a team of Nordic walking instructors who hold the basic instructor qualification of the Spanish Nordic Walking Association and organise weekly trips.

Departure point: Maritime Museum - Can Garriga
Day: Saturday
Time: 9 a.m.
Price: Free
Duration: 2 hours
No prior registration required.
Requirements: Sports clothing and footwear.
Everybody welcome. Lloret Turisme provides poles for walkers if required.

Nordic Walking History
Nordic walking began in the 1930s in Finland. It was used as a ski team training method outside the ski season. It then started to become popular in other countries and eventually reached us here.

Nordic Walking Holidays
Lloret has hotels that are specialised in Nordic walking. They offer stays with scheduled Nordic walking outings, providing guests with the necessary equipment.

Lloret has travel agencies that offer Nordic walking packages, enabling visitors to discover Lloret and the Costa Brava with qualified instructors who speak several languages.

NORDIC WALKING SERIES SPANISH CHAMPIONSHIP
Lloret will host one of the trials of the first Nordic Walking Series Spanish Championship.
The trial will take place on 30th May.
Over the next few weeks more information will be provided on how to participate and sign up.
